(NaPoWriMo #18)
The sun feels good
Shining on my eyelids
The warmth brings much needed comfort
I feel it embracing my body
A strong contrast to the cool
Wet grass cushioning my backLike a child awakening from bed
I reluctantly open my eyes
I see birds flying over head
A sparrow giving chase to crow
Defending his territory with pride
Sending silent tweets as warningI hear nothing but the silence
I feel warm liquid in my ears
And feel nothing below my waistHands lift to ears and pull away
Crimson red blood drips from fingers
Palms scraped like cheese through shredder
Jagged rocks buried in skin like treasureA flood of memories return
Neighbor comes over for coffee
She asks about plans for weekend
I speak about motorcycle rides
We decide to ride to the beach
She wears my helmet; I do not
A red ball bouncing
A child runs afterTime slows as wheel turns sharply
We fly and float and scream
Her grip loosens from my waist
We separate forever
Ground stops time then fast forwards
with a little tightening and some poetic tweaks, this could be a great! piece. good start. -tmi
